What Is the Volunteer Day & Farewell Lunch?
The Expat Community Volunteer Day and Farewell Lunch is the closing event of MOOD Travel Abroad relocation week in Medellin, Colombia, held Saturday December 12, 2026 at 10:00 AM.
Participants volunteer with a local Medellin community organization, followed by a farewell lunch with the group.
The partner organization, schedule and itinerary are announced closer to the date. Sign up is free and open to anyone in Medellin, whether or not they attended other relocation week events.
The Other Half of Moving Somewhere
You have spent the week working out what Medellin can do for you. What it costs, where you would live, how the paperwork goes.
Fair enough. That is what the week is for.
Saturday is the other question, and it is the one that separates people who move somewhere from people who actually become part of it.
Every city with a growing foreign population has a version of the same tension. Rents rise, neighborhoods change, and the people who were already there watch it happen.
You cannot solve that by yourself and nobody is asking you to. But you can decide, early, what kind of presence you intend to be.
Starting on day one of your relationship with this city rather than year three is a genuinely different way to arrive.
Then we eat together and say goodbye properly.
Who This Is For
- Everybody who came for relocation week and wants to close it properly.
- People already living in Medellin who have been meaning to get involved and have not found the door in.
- Anybody who is uncomfortable with the idea of arriving in a country purely as a consumer of it.
- Families. Bring the kids if the project suits them, and we will say clearly whether it does when we announce the partner.

- Is it free?
Yes. Sign up is free and there is no cost to participate.
- What organization are we volunteering with?
We are finalizing our partner and will announce them, along with the schedule and full itinerary, closer to the date.

- What will we actually be doing?
That depends on the partner organization and what they need most that week, which is why we announce it closer to the date rather than guessing now.
We will send full details in advance so nobody arrives unsure.
- Do I need to speak Spanish?
No. There will be Spanish speakers with the group throughout and no volunteer role will require you to be fluent.
- Can I bring my children?
Possibly, and it depends entirely on the project.
We will state clearly whether it is suitable for children when we announce the partner organization.
- Is the farewell lunch included?

- Can I come if I did not attend the rest of the week?
Yes. Anyone in Medellin is welcome, including people who already live here.
- How long does it run?
